As some of you may remember, last year I shared how you can be inspired by the fall fashion runways to alter, refashion or make your own clothes. I loved putting that post together so much I’ve decided to do it again this year!

Let’s get started with some ideas on how you can refashion your clothes into something new:

Just like last year, zippers are still appearing this season and they’re still a great way to alter and refashion your clothes. I love the zippered dress from Animale and the back zippered sweatshirt from Organic by John Patrick. I also fell in love with the Alexander Wang studded leather sweatshirt. Studs are a great(albeit time consuming) way to add some edge to a plain garment. If you’re looking for an easy refashion then the Ashley Williams leggings with the knees cut out may be what you’re looking for! The Kanye West x Adidas Originals dress would be super easy to recreate with two sweatshirts.

Fashion shows are a great source of inspiration if you sew your own clothes or even if you want to learn and are looking for some different ideas to try out. I got a ton of ideas this season like the super over-sized sweater dress from Amapo, the sheer paneled dress from Katie Gallagher, the fringed dress by Barbara Casasola, the boxy denim dress/coat (I totally have a Japanese pattern similar to this somewhere!) and the plain square dress by A Detacher.

Just like last year, there was a ton of lace on the fall runways. Some of my favorites were these three different dresses by Katie Ermilio (OK, one is more of a tunic but whatever), the Chloe dress with the lace detailing which is totally DIY-able with some lingerie lace and either a homemade or thrifted camisole or tank dress, and lastly how major are those Balmain lace pants?! I mean, come on now.

from left to right: Agnes B, Adam Selman, Baja East, Bora Aksu, Burberry Prorsum.

And finally you can always try thrifting something that looks close and either altering it or using as is and styling it so it looks similar. Two stitches and you can make this Agnes B. top with two thrifted scarves, look for an over-sized fluffy jumper for a similar Adam Selman look, use blankets to recreate the Baja East and Burberry Prorsum tops and a romantic 70s dress can easily be styled to look like it came from the Bora Aksu runway.

I hope I inspired you to make something awesome, if you do send me a tweet or instagram @liz_bumgarner, I’d love to see what you come up with!

See you soon!
